That’s all it was supposed to be. No strings attached, no feelings, no heartache.

But if I thought Sean Riley would be content having only parts of me, I was dead wrong. His persistence wore me down and I found myself in the one situation I was trying to avoid.

Little does he know a life with me will lead to nothing but disappointment and heartbreak. He’s a good man and deserves everything I can’t give him. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’m unable.

Pushing him away in the beginning was to protect me, now I’m trying to protect him as I gear up for the fight of my life.

A fight I could lose.

Getting into a relationship was my risk, but as things get worse, I’m not the only one who will have something to lose.

I just hope it’s worth it.

This is an elegantly woven story that didn’t shy away from the gritty nature of the plot.  The characters were colourfully described and were easy to connect and empathise with.

The easy relationship between the two was a perfect balance against the heartache that is explored within the pages of this story.

And yes, in case you’re wondering – I did cry at points in this book.  The author succeeding in drawing a deep emotional response from me with this novel.  And I still loved it.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

“Come back to me,” I finally plead.

She looks into my eyes and there’s so much pain I can’t stand it. “I don’t know how.” Her voice is strained as she tries to hold back the tears.

“Let me help you.” I cup her face and she leans into it.

“I just want to stop feeling this way and I can’t.” A tear falls down her cheek.

“Like what?”

She pauses and says, “Empty.”

The Truth about Porn Star Boyfriends
by Sunniva Dee
Publication date: August 15th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

I guess I just forgot.
To ask him what he did for a living, I mean.
And by the time I did, I was in—balls deep, as he’d call it.
He was the perfect boyfriend.
Attentive, gorgeous, guessing my every wish and fulfilling them.
The sex was earth-shattering.
He even dealt with my crazy mom the way no one else could.
He popped the question, God, such a perfect guy.
There was just one issue:
He f*cked other girls on camera for a living.
How the hell do you deal with that?

All authors have a distinct style which makes their narrative tone, their voice, unique. Of course Sunniva is no exception to this. Her books have a lead character with an edge, and the other protagonist is the calm counterpoint. That holds true here.

Sav is naive(ish) and easily flustered. Her lack of poise is endearing and completely at odds with Ciro who is smooth and unruffled to the point of frustration.

But this book isn’t just the story of boy meets girl. Whilst one could approach this book solely on that level, for me it goes deeper than that. It is provocative in the way in which it challenges what the reader might consider to be a betrayal within the confines of an exclusive relationship. But it is not done in a brash manner; rather it offers a more subtle presentation of an alternative point of view, despite what you might expect from the title.

There is something about this couple which resonated with me. I can’t put my finger on the precise reason why. What I can tell you is that Sav’s vacillations stayed just on the right side of frustrating and the conclusion was pitched just right.

Simply put, I loved this story.

About the author

Between studies, teaching, and advising, Sunniva has spent her entire adult life in a college environment. Most of her novels are new adult romance geared toward smart, passionate readers with a love for eclectic language and engaging their brain as well as their heart while reading.

Born in the Land of the Midnight Sun, the author spent her early twenties making the world her playground. Southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece–Argentina: Buenos Aires, in particular. The United States finally kept her interest, and after half a decade in Los Angeles, she now lounges in the beautiful city of Savannah.

Sometimes, Sunniva writes with a paranormal twist (Shattering Halos, Stargazer, and Cat Love). At other times, it’s contemporary (Pandora Wild Child, Leon’s Way, Adrenaline Crush, Walking Heartbreak, and Dodging Trains, coming in late March 2016).

This author is the happiest when her characters let their emotions run off with them, shaping her stories in ways she never foresaw. She loves bad-boys and good-boys run amok, and like in real life, her goal is to keep the reader on her toes until the end of each story.

Review & #giveaway – Mr Prescott by Carlos Dash @CarlosDash1 @xpressotours @xpressoreads

Book details:

Mr. Prescott by Carlos Dash
Publication date: August 20th 2017
Genres: New Adult, Romance

I’m the Mayor of London.

I’ve come to New York purely on business. The usual boring meetings with other politicians.
I don’t expect my time here to be exciting in the slightest.

But who’s that woman I met this morning? No, girl. That would be a more accurate term for her.
She’s only twenty-one years old. A college student. Someone who shouldn’t get mixed up with a guy like me.

But I can’t get her out of my mind. Every single time I close my eyes, I see her face.
How can someone I just met do this to me? That’s the kind of stuff that happens in movies. Not real life.

I know this will be a dangerous risk for me, but I can’t help it. I want her. I need her.
And whatever it may do to my career, I won’t stop until I have her.

Mr. Prescott is a standalone New Adult Romance novel told entirely from the point of view of the male lead.

I’m just going to get this out of the way – Nathan Prescott is a bit of a self absorbed, arrogant ass.  I didn’t really like him as a character.

That said, if you like your stories with a healthy helping of instalove, then this will be right up your street.  For me, although the book was technically well written, with rounded characters, I did struggle a little with the apparent depth of the connection between the two protagonists, particularly given the age of the male lead.  His reaction was, for me at least, far more consistent with a younger man.

However, that niggle aside, this is a hot, diverting little read.  At only 162 pages, the author has nevertheless managed to cram a lot into a reasonably restricted word count.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
