Book details:

Faking It with Damian by DJ Hunnam
Publication date: January 23rd 2017
Genres: Contemporary, Erotica, Romance

Damian.jpgSynopsis:

I don’t do relationships… especially not with egotistical jerks like my new boss, Damian Wood. The man is vile, arrogant, condescending… and scorching hot. If he weren’t my boss and a grade-A a*&hole, I would turn on my world-famous charm and seduce the pants right off the man. But giving in to his undeniable allure might just cost me my job. Or worse yet, my heart.

I’m a prick…and Janice Holder’s new boss. Which means I should stay away, but I’ve never claimed to be a nice guy. If I don’t get my twisted fascination under control, it will only be a matter of time before I bend her over my desk and screw her. Hard. The way I’ve imagined no fewer than a thousand times since we met. I’m playing with fire and neither of us can afford to get burned, but landing in hot water might just be worth the risk.

Faking It is a full-length, standalone office romance. It contains steamy scenes with a ton of heat and strong language intended for mature audiences.

review

I’m going to start this review by saying that, overall, I really enjoyed it.  However, I really struggled to like Janice.  She struck me as a somewhat arrogant and self absorbed character, and despite attempts to soften her, she never quite won me over.

Damian is also all of those things, but for me at least, he was easier to connect with.  I don’t think that this is me applying double standards, I just felt that the way he presented was more relatable than Janice.

And steamy scenes?  Oh my.  This office romance might easily be considered as NSFW.

The wider story arc is a reasonable one.  The connection between the two lead characters is compelling and well executed.

At the risk of repeating myself, overall, I really enjoyed it!

About the author

First introduced to the genre by her grandmother, DJ Hunnam is an author with a true love for great romance novels. After reading hundreds of them over the last twenty years, she finally decided to put pen to paper and craft her own happily ever afters (HEA). She loves to write about strong heroines who fall in love with even sexier heroes, while tackling real-world problems. Her books are packed with sizzling scenes sure to make you blush.

A scientist by day and author by night, DJ Hunnam straddles the fence between the mundane and the erotic on a daily basis. When she isn’t writing, you might find her curled up with a book, chasing her two wild sons, or pursuing her own HEA with her husband of ten years. She’s a sucker for dark chocolate, a good bottle of Malbec, and a sexy six-pack.

Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

RoughSynopsis:

Jared

I’m not your boyfriend. I’m not the guy next door. I don’t even play nice.

My hands twisting in your hair, my whispered demand in your ear—I’m the fantasy you’ll wish you never had.

When I’m through with you, every inch of your body will know where I’ve been. You won’t crave more, you’ll beg for it. Because I’m not just the cocky smile with military hardened muscles you paid five grand for—I’m the experience you’ll never forget.

One night with me and you’ll know exactly why women pay me to be rough.

review

This book overlaps with the time frame in Thrust (link below).  I strongly recommend that you read Thrust first, although it is totally possible to read this this volume on a stand alone basis.

So to the book itself.  I’m not going to lie.  This book is seriously hot.  And you aren’t eased into it either. Oh no.  Prepare yourself for a full on, in your face, explicit ride.  And despite the candid nature of the narrative (give it a miss if you like clean romance) there is, somehow, an underlying feeling of insecurity and tenderness wrapped up securely within it.

I really enjoyed the teasing out of the connection and growth of the relationship between these two.  Her hesitancy, his unexpected response to her.

Overall, for me, I think that this was a stronger story than Thrust.  I had a better emotional connection to the character development.  I can’t wait to see what the author delivers with Grind.

About the author

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.
Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.

To find out more about Sybil Bartel, be sure to follow her on Twitter (she loves to hear about your favorite book boyfriend!), visit her website, like her on Facebook or join her Facebook group Book Boyfriend Heroes for exclusive excerpts and giveaways.

Review & #giveaway – The Makeup Test by Vanessa M. Knight @VanessaMKnight @xpressotours

Book details:

The Makeup Test by Vanessa M. Knight
Publication date: April 4th 2017
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

MakeupTest.jpgSynopsis:

Parker Breckinridge is a sophomore in college and already running her own internet cosmetics business. She doesn’t apologize for her successes—or anything else. She’s worked hard to get what where she is. She’s had to. It’s not like there was anything else in her life, despite her rich family.

Cade Adler doesn’t do relationships—especially relationships with uptight princesses. Been there. Done that. Destroyed the T-shirt. Besides, what with working full-time as a police officer and going to school, who has time for women? Not him.

With his tattoos and overall attitude, Cade is exactly what Parker doesn’t need. And between her father’s money and her piss-poor attitude, Parker is exactly what Cade doesn’t need.

So why is it they can’t stay apart?

review

Although this is book #6 in the Ritter University series, it is perfectly capable of being read as a standalone, as I did.

At 144 kindle pages, this is not a tale which will take up much of your time.  It is, for the most part, a light, fast paced read.

I must say that, certainly for the start at least, I didn’t much take to Parker.  I much preferred Cade as a character.  I warmed to her somewhat over the course of the story, but at first it was difficult to relate to the connection between them, other than at the most superficial of levels.

The humour works well and weaves seamlessly into the overall tone for the story.  The author has done a good job of ensuring that the story is not adversely affected by its length, and as a result has produced an enjoyable, quick read.

About the author

Vanessa M. Knight has always enjoyed writing and once she found romance, she was addicted. She props her laptop in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, son and menagerie of 4-pawed, claw-babies (AKA cats and dogs.) That laptop has partnered-in-crime to write contemporary romances with a dash of humor and splash of snark.

When she has a few moments to spare, you can find her singing off key (but she assures us it’s still considered singing), reading, kickboxing or killing a few brain cells as she stares at the many sitcoms and dramas available through the Internet and TV.
