Parker.jpgSynopsis:

Former collegiate athlete and successful sports agent, Charlotte “Coach” Coachman, is a straight shooter who has a very strict policy—no dating clients. The loves of her life are coaching little league basketball and managing the careers of her players, leaving no room for men.

Coach hasn’t met an athlete she couldn’t handle and a deal she couldn’t close—until she meets Alex Parker—the NHL’s most notorious bad boy both on and off the ice.

Alex is the best defenseman in the league, breaking records along with hearts. He’s made a name for himself as a womanizer, and after a scandal involving the owner’s granddaughter, Alex is traded to Philadelphia. Still reeling from the loss of his father, Alex is on a downward spiral, drowning himself in booze and women, until Coach takes him under her wing.

She might be attracted to the sexy hockey star, and certainly not immune to his charms, but Coach can see that Alex needs her help, and coaching players is what she does best. Now that the lines are blurred and the passion between them is too strong to deny, Coach has to decide if Alex is worth making an exception to her rules.

review

You know, I really shouldn’t like Parker.  At all.  He is, for all intents and purposes, a complete and utter douche.  and I really liked Coach from the outset – she is a strong, feisty, independent and eminently likeable female lead.

But, if you can get beyond his past (and the catalyst for his bad behaviour helps to a certain extent) then you are left with a heartwarming story which filled me with anticipatory butterflies.

The connection the author has created, both between the characters and with the reader, is strong and really had me wanting this couple’s relationship to succeed.

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable story.

Review & #giveaway – Wet by Ashley Bostock @_AshleyBostock @xpressotours

Book & Author Details:

Wet by Ashley Bostock
Publication date: December 26th 2016
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Wet_1600x2400.jpegSynopsis:

I’ve always been Miranda Phillips, the town pariah. Growing up with neglectful parents, having sought attention from all the guys that were willing to give it to me, I wasn’t the most well-behaved kid in Lone Star. Not to mention all of the juvenile delinquent acts I’ve committed in my past.

But now I am Lone Star’s only reporter and I’ve come a long way from being that lost, troubled girl, even if most of the town still judged me for it. I don’t allow anyone to get in the way of what I want. Including Ryan John. So when I corner him in a dark hallway and get him to succumb to the sizzling attraction between us, I know I’m playing with fire.

***

Even though I’ve successfully avoided her for two months, I haven’t forgotten how she tastes or what she feels like in my arms. And when I get sent a mysterious letter from some company wanting to buy my thousand shares of water rights that have been in my family for over a hundred years, I’m convinced that there is no one…err, better equipped, to help me than Lone Star’s reporter, Miranda Phillips.

I know how desperately she wants me and this letter gives me all the reason I need to spend one night with the girl from the wrong side of town. One night in exchange for her tight investigative skills. And believe me, she’s tight, in more ways than one. One night. Because Miranda is trouble and being on the city council, as well as guardian to my younger brother and sister, means I can’t afford trouble.

Even if it comes packaged just the way I like.

review

I confess that I’m not entirely sure that I get this love story.  The author has created a wonderfully strong character with Miranda, and a decent counterpoint in the form of Ryan.  Despite this, he seems to approach his interactions with her as being good enough for a quickie but not a relationship. But worse than that, Miranda, this firecracker of a female who continues to hold her head up high in a town that is constantly judging her, is apparently accepting of that state of affairs?

I guess that it is a testament to the depth of the characters that the author has created that she has provoked such a response.  For, if I didn’t have some kind of connection to the characters, I wouldn’t care about their interactions.

That aside, there are issues with the storytelling.  The narrative switches tense and for my money, this needs a thorough review by an editor.

The bottom line is that I thought that there was a kernel of a decent story, but I would have preferred the ending to be a little less rushed.

Review & #giveaway – Too Wilde to Tame by Tonya Burrows @tonyaburrows @indiesagepromo

Too Wilde to Tame

by Tonya Burrows
Wilde Security #5
Publication Date: February 27, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Ignite, Contemporary, Romance

SYNOPSIS:

For three years, ballet teacher Natalie Taggart has lived across the hall from grumpy, reclusive, sexy Greer Wilde. Save for a handful of hellos and the occasional heated glance, they never spoke to each other.

Until the morning Greer lands on her doorstep, bleeding, beaten, and bullet-riddled.

Greer doesn’t need or want her help. He has only one goal: revenge. And nobody—not his brothers, and certainly not his too-hot-for-his-sanity next-door neighbor—is going to get in his way.

review

I confess – I haven’t read any of the other books in this series.  Nor do I think you need to in order to enjoy this story, although inevitably, details will be filled in should you choose to do so.  This book is, however, perfectly easily read as a standalone.

And the story is a good one. The author has developed characters with whom it is easy to make an emotional connection – the hopelessness felt by Greer, the frustration felt by Natalie.  Both are drawn on the page with deft strokes.

But don’t think that the author has sacrificed the plot to concentrate on the relationship.  This is a tense storyline which kept my interest throughout.

A one sitting read.
