Authors you may have missed #4 Sarra Cannon @sarramaria

Now I know that all of you who read my blog semi-regularly, know that I have genres I like.  Fantasy/paranormal;  Romance;  YA.  Simple?  So imagine how happy I was with an author who has books which fit in all of the above??  Yep, happy as a pig in the proverbial!

I first came across Sarra’s Peachville Demons books.  All the usual High School drama and angst, but with cheerleaders, demons, witches, covens and general world domination.  You know, the usual.  The first 3 books in the series are available as a box set for very little money (link below), and generally hooked me.  The story was, as with all of Sarra’s books, focussed and well written, and the ending?? Well.  I’m not just going to give it away, now, am I??

So after reading these books, I looked for what else she had written and came across the Fairhope books.  Definitely NOT High School angst.  These books deal with deeper, more adult themes, but not in a massively explicit way.  As Sarra explains on her blog (www.sarracannon.com) The Trouble With Goodbye, dealing with a survivor of a rape, is for her, a personal story.  It is powerful and touching, and at the same time you feel the frustration Leigh Ann feels at having to come back to Fairhope, no longer the person she was when she left.

But what if you like a good zombie tale??? Well, she’s got that covered, and you know what?? It’s a great story too!!

Oh, and because I’m so good to you, I’m letting you know about Sarra just before she releases her new serialised story, Sacrifice me.  First 2 episodes are out on 12th May.  Recommended for ages 16+

Needless to say, I’m a big fan.  Sarra is great at interacting with her fans, be it on her Facebook page or via twitter.  A word of warning….. if you are offended by Hello Kitty, some of the photos may cause distress.  You have been warned!!

You can get hold of Sarra on twitter (twitter.com@sarramaria) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/sarracannon)

There’s something here for everyone.  Unless you like manuals showing you how to fix a car engine.  In which case, probably not the book you’re looking for.  Move along……

Authors you may have missed #3 Bria Quinlan @briaquinlan

You may not have guessed, but I am back from holiday.  It’s raining and gloomy outside, so I thought I would cheer myself up by letting you know about another one of my fave authors.

For Bria, writing under one name is simply not enough….oh no!  She also releases books under the name of Caitie Quinn, but regardless of the name on the front cover, the books are all the same – well written, excellent reads.

As is often the way, I came across Bria’s work by accident, this time through another writer.  I’m fairly sure that I downloaded her books out of order, as I started with Wreckless, which is a gorgeous story of young love, betrayal and peer pressure.  I simply loved it, so I downloaded Secret Girlfriend and Secret Lives.  These are YA novels, but I commend them to anyone who loves a story of hope.

Its true to say that, particularly with Secret Lives, Bria doesnt shy away from some difficult topics.  Her stories were touching and well observed.  I was moved to email her, and I like to think that we have become friends since.  In fact, I’m not sure that I would be writing a blog at all, but for her.  #IblameBria

The books by Caitie (Bria) are also just as good, and though involving adults, they are the same delicious stories that suck you in to the romance.

Bria can be contacted on twitter (@briaquinlan) or on her website www.briaquinlan.com.  If you are an aspiring author, I commend her excellent indie panel blog which provided some useful information and guidance from best selling authors.  Have a look at the panel here…. http://briaquinlan.com/?p=1827

Get a little love in your life and download one of her books!

Authors you may have missed #2 SM Reine @smreine

I start with a confession of sorts.  I’m STILL on holiday!  (though we fly back home tomorrow… boo!).  So this blog is being written in the shadow of Blackcomb Mountain; the sun is out, the sky is very blue, and I’m not skiing because I dropped something on my foot and it is interesting shades of purple and black at the moment!

Anyhow, enough about me!  This is the second in my series of attempts to get you hooked on authors whose books I adore.  The first one was about Robert J Crane.  Did you read it?  No?  Well maybe when you’ve done with this one, you can have a quick peek OK?

So, SM Reine…. she is by no means an unknown indie author.  She is a New York Times and USA Today best selling author – and for good reason.

As is often the way, I came across Sara’s books by accident – a gentle nudge in her direction from my ereader.  As the books I was looking at were free, as is often the case, I thought… “why not??”  I downloaded the first book in the Seasons of the Moon series.  Instantly hooked.  Downloaded the next one, and really, just kept going!

There are several series for you to chose from.  Seasons of the Moon (4 books); The Cain Chronicles (6 books), The Descent series (7 books); The Ascension series (5 books so far); Preternatural Affairs (2 books so far) & the newest one (which has a few more sexy shennanigans in it) The Tarot Witches (1 books so far).  I could set out the reading order here, but Sara does it much better (and with a flow chart!) on her website http://authorsmreine.com/

Imagine if you will, a story with a fully formed set of characters and locations right here in the regular world.  Then add Hell; and Eden; and Heaven; oh,and another location too, but I don’t want to give everything away…. add in Angels, demons, witches; humans; and an assorted cast of other creatures and beings and you may begin to get a teeny idea of just how vast this world is that she has created.

The depth of the story lines and the nature of the interweaving is jaw dropping.  Every now and then, I’ll be reading one of the books and have a lightbulb moment, when that book explains something which may have been a bit unclear from another story (for me anyway).

Elise Kavanagh and Rylie Gresham are both kick ass heroines in their own way.  Do I wish things worked out differently for them (read the books, you’ll see what I mean)… of course.  And James…. well, I trust that Sara will resolve his …. issues…..

I can’t do blurbs or explain any more.  I just won’t do it justice.  I will just have to suggest that you try her books for yourself.  I have a werewolf/demon problem.  SM Reine enables it.  ‘Nuff said.

Click on a book link…. I dare you!

Tarot Witches #1 is only available as part of a box set at the moment, but will be released as a standalone in the future.  The box set is DEFINITELY for adults only due to the mature subject matter!
