They warned me not to take this job.
They said you were ruthless, impossible to please…
I said I was better than them.
I wouldn’t fall for your charm, your arrogance, or how sexy you fill out that suit.
I wouldn’t fall for your deep brown eyes or the way that muscle moves in your square jaw when you’re pissed.
I said I could resist you.
I was wrong…
(BOSS OF ME is a STAND-ALONE workplace, enemies to lovers, military romance with a badass alpha boss and the feisty woman who steals his heart. No cheating. No cliffhangers.)
There’s a lot going on in this story, leaving aside the romance arc. Addiction, grief, inappropriate workplace harrassment to name just 3.
But, for the most part, the author does a bang up job of balancing it all without tipping over into an unduly melancholic or traumatic tale. There is emotion – of course there is – but again, it doesn’t go too far one way or another to become unsettling in the context of the overall story.
My only real gripe about this is that the conclusion felt rushed. I would have liked that to have been fleshed out a bit more.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
