Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan
(Bixby Series #1)
Publication date: March 1st 2015
Genres: Science Fiction, Fantasy
My name is Bixby. I was 12 years old when the world ended. A mysterious mist had blanketed our world, turning most of the population into blood-sucking predators. The few of us left uninfected…well, we were the prey. Vanquished to the bottom of the food chain.
For eight years we’ve fought this alien war. Barely surviving. Not knowing which day would be our last. But now we face a new threat. The parasite that took us down is evolving. Becoming smarter. Stronger. Deadlier.
The infected took everything from me. My home. My family. The man that I loved. No more.
This is the story of our resistance.
Mature themes. 17+ Rating
This book is a refreshing twist on the zombie apocalypse trope, and is a really fast, engrossing read.
From the very first page, the reader is sucked into the action, and although there is an element of scene setting, it is neither unnecessarily wordy nor sluggish in pace.
And, to be fair, this story fair romps along. And it’s a very easy read. The plot is decent and there are some genuine moments of tension which keeps the reader interested.
That ending though? A great hook for the next in the series.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I wish I could say I’ve climbed Mt. Everest or ridden in a hot air balloon around the world, but alas I lead a very quiet life in Nova Scotia, Canada. The only adventures I go on are in my books. But what adventures they are!
When I’m not reading or writing I have a day (bill paying) job as a chocolate shop manager. So yes, I work with both books and chocolate! Living the dream.
The rest of my time is spent with my three favourite guys; my hubby, my son and my crazy fur baby. We are a family of geeks, fans of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, lovers of books and players of video games. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
